That’s where Miami sits in the AP’s all-time ranking, which the organization compiled by looking back at 1,103 weekly polls over the last 80 years.

What Miami fans will want to know: the teams ahead of theirs. Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Michigan, Texas, Florida State, Florida, LSU and Penn State rank ahead of the Hurricanes.
Miami will be a spotlighted team when the AP releases a feature on the 1980s on Aug. 22.
The first AP poll was released in 1936 with 20 teams, included 10 teams from 1961-67 and expanded from 20 to 25 beginning in 1989.
This year’s preseason poll will be released Aug. 21.
