Miami Hurricanes practice observations, Aug. 18

[Kuligowski lays out numerical goals for DL, defense]

What we saw at Hurricanes practice, the day after Miami’s second scrimmage of camp:

Following its long-delayed scrimmage that ended after 8 p.m., Miami ran through a midday practice that lasted about an hour. UM usually starts practice around 9 a.m.

Three players who did not participate in the scrimmage — linebacker Michael Pinckney, defensive end Scott Patchan and defensive lineman Tyreic Martin — were seen riding stationary bikes. Pinckney continues to be limited by a hamstring injury, while Patchan and Martin are out long-term with knee injuries.

Wide receiver Dionte Mullins was not at practice. The team believes Mullins, who signed in February and has yet to enroll, is close to doing so. However, he is still not in.

Coach Mark Richt (and defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, anong others) are expected to address the media after practice.
