The Hurricanes landed their second commit for the 2017 class when New Zealand forward Sam Waardenburg pledged to UM after visiting Tuesday.

A source confirmed a report from Scout.com that Waardenburg, 6-foot-9 and 205 pounds, is now in the 2017 class. He joins top-50 point guard Chris Lykes.

Waardenburg also considered Utah, Virginia and SMU.

According to Scout, Waardenburg averaged 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in the recent Adidas Nations tournament. He was 7-for-11 from three.

He could become the second player from Australasia to sign with UM in as many years. Freshman guard Dejan Vasiljevic hails from Australia.
