Not much doing here at Hurricanes practice — that we can see, anyway.
A new UM media policy, enacted today, allows reporters to take photos and video of seven minutes of practice. We can now do so during the stretch period.
A primary reason for this is protecting players from media reporting on injuries; were shooed away when we tried to look at who was riding exercise bikes.
We were told we would be allowed to watch 15 minutes of ball-security drills later in practice. With Miami in a weather delay this morning, that portion of practice was canceled.
Previously, we were permitted to view — and take photos and videos — of 15 minutes of warmups and individual drills, and move around in a much larger area of the practice field. Every time we watched Hurricanes practice, I strove to bring you unique sights and sounds from Greentree, along with observations on what I saw out there.
That will be much tougher now. This is mostly what we’ll get to see. My apologies.
My goal, regardless of UM policy, is to bring you the best possible coverage of Miami football, with information you will not find anywhere else.
That will never change.
A few notes:
Defensive tackle Kendrick Norton was seen during the stretch period. Norton, who limped off late in last week’s win over FAU, appeared to be stretching OK. So there’s that.
Cornerback Adrian Colbert (meniscus surgery) was riding an exercise bike. He and defensive tackle Courtel Jenkins (same surgery) are not expected to play this week, but could be back soon, according to a source.
Defensive end Chad Thomas was at practice. Thomas is dealing with a shoulder injury aggravated against FAU, a source said.
Miami will unveil its new old-school uniforms at a party Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Rathskeller on campus. The event will be open to the public.
