After UM’s second loss in a row, this time a 20-13 setback at home against unranked North Carolina, the Hurricanes (4-2, 1-2 ACC) fell out of the Associated Press top 25.

UM was second in the “also receiving votes” category, essentially placing 27th.

(I dropped the Hurricanes from my AP ballot.)

The Hurricanes were 17th in last week’s coaches poll, but dropped out. The Football Writers’ Association of America voters (note: I am one) did not rank Miami.

It marks a precipitous fall for UM, which was ranked No. 10 in the AP poll two weeks ago. That was before it lost to 23rd-ranked Florida State at home 20-19.

On Thursday, the Hurricanes will face fellow formerly ranked program Virginia Tech (4-2, 2-1) in Blacksburg. The Hokies were 17th last week, before losing at Syracuse.

UNC’s win over the then-ranked Hurricanes moved it back into the poll. The Tar Heels (5-2, 3-1) are 22nd.
