Pregame observations: Miami Hurricanes at Notre Dame 2016

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Welcome to Notre Dame, where it’s really nice. The buildings are unique, the leaves are in mid-turn, and the weather is mild.

The football, we hope, will be competitive.

Miami and Notre Dame, two teams who spent time in the top 10 this year but have nine combined losses, will combine for another beginning at 3:30 p.m. Someone’s gotta win it, and I picked Miami in my Friday predictions piece.

The crew at College GameDay didn’t have a high opinion of the Hurricanes, or this game:

We’ll see.

Updates:

Three players who missed the Virginia Tech game are here and warming up. They are: defensive end Chad Thomas (“upper body” injury, per UM, sustained in Oct. 15 game against North Carolina), cornerback Sheldrick Redwine (“lower body”), defensive tackle Gerald Willis (knee injury Oct. 8 against Florida State). Additionally, safety Rayshawn Jenkins (ankle injury last week) is here. All are expected to play.

Defensive end Demetrius Jackson (knee) is not here. He and freshman wide receiver Dionte Mullins (hamstring, per source) did not make the trip.

Here’s a few scenes from South Bend:

Not bad.
