Alabama coach Nick Saban once flew in by helicopter to recruit him, but Mark Richt will get to coach him.

Safety Gurvan Hall, from Palm Beach Lakes High, announced his commitment to the Hurricanes on Monday evening.

Hall, a four-star prospect, is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. He is rated as high as the No. 11 safety in the country by 247Sports.

A first-team Post All-Area pick last year for the district runner-up Rams, Hall finished with 87 tackles (13 for loss) and five interceptions. As a receiver, he recorded 457 yards and six touchdowns on 23 catches.

In addition to the Hurricanes and Crimson Tide, Hall held offers from Michigan, Florida and Ohio State, among others.

His commitment follows that of four-star receiver Mark Pope, who pledged Monday afternoon.

Miami has the nation’s top-rated recruiting class for 2018 according to both 247Sports and Rivals.

Nine of 15 players in the class are rated in the top 300 nationally by the 247Sports composite ratings (ostensibly a blend of rankings from recruiting websites). Three are defensive backs — Hall and four-star cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Gilbert Frierson — and another, four-star corner and UM legacy Al Blades Jr., is widely expected to join the fold at some point.
