It’s the slowest period of the college football calendar, and stories of real news value are hard to come by. Sometimes we blog about The Rock’s political ambitions. Sometimes we write sentences like this:
If the Hurricanes can ride a stout defense and what some believe is a favorable schedule to the College Football Playoff — a scenario which Fox Sports considers a possibility — Mark Richt will climb higher in CBS Sports’ coaches rankings.
Richt checks in at No. 15 in the power ranking of Power Five head men, up three spots from last year.
“It’ll be interesting to see how our perception of Richt changes during his tenure at Miami. He’s clearly respected as one of the best coaches in the country, but if he goes a few more seasons without an ACC title I’d expect him to slide down rather quickly.”
ACC peers ahead of Richt on the list: Louisville’s Bobby Petrino (No. 13), Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher (No. 4) and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney (No. 3).
This will not be a discussion point when the league conducts its spring meetings next week in Amelia Island.
