It seems Athlon Sports had to fit Ahmmon Richards in there somewhere.

Richards, named a first-team freshman All-American by multiple outlets last year, graduated to the ranks of preseason All-American according to at least one publication.

Athlon put the Wellington High graduate on its fourth team, as an all-purpose player.

He is listed behind North Carolina State’s Jaylen Samuels (first), Middle Tennessee wide receiver Richie James (second) and Pittsburgh’s Quadree Henderson (third).

The other wide receivers on Athlon’s list are Oklahoma State’s James Washington and Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk, both first-teamers; SMU’s Courtland Sutton and Alabama’s Calvin Ridley, both second-teamers; Iowa State’s Allen Lazard and Washington’s Dante Pettis, both third-teamers, and Memphis’ Anthony Miller and Colorado State’s Michael Gallup, both fourth-teamers.

Richards is the only player named above who is entering his sophomore year. Last year, he led all freshmen nationally in receiving yards — and broke Michael Irvin‘s 31-year-old program record for a first-year player — with 934, adding three touchdowns on 49 catches. His 19.06 yards per catch was also a freshman best.
