CORAL GABLES — A few notes from the early part of Tuesday’s practice, four days before UM’s season-opener against Bethune-Cookman (12:30 p.m. Saturday, ACC regional networks):

* UM President Julio Frenk addressed the team after warmups. Mark Richt gave him a football he signed. The message reads, “To President Frenk, thank you for your leadership! Go Canes!”

Frenk said he offered the team a message of support. Asked for a prediction, Frenk said UM will do “very well” this season.

His comments to reporters:

* No. 1 wide receiver Ahmmon Richards wasn’t spotted. He has practiced since pulling his hamstring last week, but is unlikely to play against Bethune.

* Starting left guard Trevor Darling spent a little time on the trainer’s table, apparently getting a lower-leg issue addressed.

* Among quarterbacks, freshman Cade Weldon was in a scout-team jersey. Classmate N’Kosi Perry was not.
