CORAL GABLES — A freshman with a familiar name has several months of rehabilitation ahead.
Wide receiver Evidence Njoku “sustained a lower right extremity injury and is out for the season,” a UM spokesperson said Wednesday.
The injury happened in Tuesday’s practice, but other details are unclear.
Njoku, the brother of Cleveland Browns and former UM star David Njoku, hyperextended his left knee during camp, Mark Richt said in August. The time he missed during camp was one reason UM planned to redshirt him this fall.
The website CanesInsight cited sources which said “the fear is that Njoku suffered a torn ACL” on the same knee.
Njoku, listed at 6-foot-6 and 196 pounds, looked impressive as he ran routes during the brief media viewing period of Tuesday’s practice. He played a scout-team role, mimicking Syracuse standout Steve Ishmael.
David Njoku has 118 yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions as a Browns rookie.
