On early signing day, Miami signed a running back who isn’t as heralded as UM’s 2018 headliner, but is still plenty good.
More about him:
Status: signed; plans to enroll in May
Size: 5-9, 190
School: Miami-Carol City
Stats: 820 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns on 123 carries; nine catches for 94 yards and a touchdown (247)
Stars: Four (ESPN, Rivals, 247)
Rank: No. 8 running back, No. 162 overall (ESPN); No. 8 running back, No. 163 overall (247)
Projection: Complementary back. Davis won’t arrive with the same accolades as five-star signee Lorenzo Lingard (and won’t participate in spring drills like Lingard will), but he’s powerful for his size and runs strong enough to earn a few carries behind starter Travis Homer and Lingard. ESPN called him “small in stature but explosive, sudden and quick through the hole” who has “good lateral jabs and cuts … very difficult to corral. … Once he adds more size, he has the potential to be a complete running back at the next level.”
Fun facts: Had 22 offers, including Georgia, USC, Wisconsin, Oregon, North Carolina and West Virginia … Miami was his only official visit … Attended The Opening and was on a Team (Savage Pro) with a host of future Hurricanes: Lingard, quarterback Jarren Williams, receivers Brian Hightower and Mark Pope, tight ends Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory, cornerback Al Blades, offensive lineman Delone Scaife and defensive tackle Nesta Silvera … He originally committed to Oregon State … Wore No. 2 on his official visit to UM.
