A longtime Miami commit has backed off his pledge.

Diamante Howard, a Class of 2019 outside linebacker at Miami Southridge High, announced on Twitter he is no longer a member of Miami’s upcoming recruiting class.

Diehards reported Miami had “cooled” in the last year on Howard, who committed in 2016. According to Diehards, Howard (6-foot-2, 178 pound) “never filled out physically in the manner Miami hoped and schools have begun to look at the linebacker as a prospect in the secondary.”

According to 247Sports, Howard is a three-star recruit and the 590th-best player nationally.  He also happens to be the cousin of the late Sean Taylor, the beloved UM Sports Hall of Famer.

UM’s 2019 class, which is ranks second nationally per 247, includes 11 commits. Two of them are three-star linebackers: Jesiah Pierre (6-2, 220, from Mount Dora Christian) and Samuel Brooks (6-1, 195, from Miami Northwestern).

Howard told Diehards that he is now interested in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and UCF.
