The Hurricanes, who are looking for depth at wide receiver, received a commitment for 2017 from Rodney Scott.
Scott, listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, committed to UM on Monday, as first reported by 247Sports.
He plays for Miami Southridge High, which is a hot spot for Mark Richt and his new staff. Two of Scott’s teammates, tight end prospect Kemore Gamble and safety Billy Gibson, are committed to the Hurricanes. UM is also recruiting linebacker Nadarius Fagan and cornerback Shawn Davis.
Scott earned his offer from UM as a sophomore, from Al Golden‘s staff. Gamble committed to Golden last June. Gibson committed to Richt last month.
Scott is rated a four-star recruit and No. 46 among wide receivers by the 247Sports composite ratings (ostensibly a blend of major recruiting websites’ rankings). ESPN rates Scott as a four-star and 27th at his position, and puts him at No. 191 in its national rankings. Scout has him 51st among receivers. Rivals ranks him as a three-star and places him 59th at his position; 247Sports has him 77th.
Scout’s report on Scott:
“… slippery at the line of scrimmage, and does an outstanding job of sticking his foot in the grass and making defenders miss with a head and shoulder shake. He has nice length and flashes the ability to high-point the football away from his body as well. Scott also shows good concentration and awareness when making difficult catches and dragging his feet in bounds.”
ESPN said Scott is a “big frame outside receiver prospect with upside, who “could be an immediate contributor in red zone packages.”
Scott caught 21 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown last season, according to 247Sports.
With Scott in the mix, Miami has 11 players in its recruiting class, which is rated tops in the ACC and No. 2 nationally by 247Sports’ composite ratings.
